Robinhood Expands Prediction Markets to Compete with Traditional Sportsbooks
Robinhood, the popular trading app, is enhancing its prediction markets by allowing users to make parlay-style bets on multiple NFL games. This significant move is set to shake up the sports betting landscape, positioning Robinhood directly in competition with established sportsbooks.
Innovative Betting Features Unveiled
Starting this week, Robinhood users can now trade preset combinations of game outcomes, totals, and spreads for individual NFL matchups. In early 2026, a new feature will enable users to create custom combinations of up to 10 outcomes across various NFL games. According to JB Mackenzie, the company’s VP and general manager of futures and international, these enhancements will provide a “structural look or feel as a parlay,” transforming the way users engage with the platform.
Additionally, the new features will allow real-time wagering on the performances of individual players, letting users place prop bets on events like a player scoring a touchdown or their total yardage across a game.
“We see this as a golden opportunity to lead in the prediction markets space,” said Mackenzie during the recent “Robinhood Presents: YES/NO” keynote event in California.
Future Parlaying Beyond Sports
Looking beyond traditional sports events, Robinhood envisions a future where users can combine assets from different categories, such as climate data or election outcomes. Mackenzie mentioned the potential for pairing sporting events with economic data, indicating Robinhood’s ambition to broaden its offerings in the prediction market.
The company introduced its prediction markets shortly before the 2024 presidential election, allowing users to trade contracts associated with candidates like former Vice President Kamala Harris and President Donald Trump. Since then, Robinhood has partnered with multiple market operators, including Kalshi and Susquehanna International Group, to strengthen its foothold in this emerging sector.
Robust Market Growth
With prediction markets generating impressive figures, Robinhood has reported annualized revenue of approximately $100 million, with over 11 billion contracts traded by more than 1 million users. The company’s prediction markets business grew notably in November, with over 3 billion contracts traded, signifying a substantial 20% month-over-month increase.
Mackenzie expressed optimism for continued growth, stating, “We’re at the beginning of where this is really going to go, and we anticipate further expansion in new events and asset classes.”
A New Generation of Traders
As more young investors turn to platforms like Robinhood, experts see significant potential for growth in prediction markets. Analyst Dan Dolev from Mizuho remarked, “Users of Robinhood and Coinbase are about nine times more likely to engage with prediction markets,” highlighting the platform’s appeal among Gen-Z investors.
Piper Sandler suggested that Robinhood’s prediction markets could be a “significant” growth opportunity, with some experts forecasting a meteoric rise in Robinhood’s stock, attributed in part to this strategic expansion.
Shaping the Future of Financial Services
Robinhood’s ambitions go beyond prediction markets alone. Analysts believe that the company is positioning itself to be the “new Schwab for Gen Z,” offering multifaceted financial services that span various aspects of personal finance. Despite Robinhood’s assets under custody standing at $193 billion in 2024, a stark contrast to Charles Schwab’s $10.10 trillion, there’s a consensus that Robinhood is rapidly scaling its operations.
With a focus on innovation and user engagement, Robinhood is poised to become a major player in the financial services landscape, not just as a trading platform but as a comprehensive solution for a new generation of investors.
