Grayscale Files for US IPO

In a significant development for the crypto investment scene, Grayscale Investments has officially submitted its registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with the intent of going public. Grayscale, known for its focus on digital asset investments, is poised to list shares of its Class A common stock on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol GRAY.

In its filing, Grayscale indicated that the initial share price will be determined through a directed share program specifically for investors in its Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF and Grayscale Ethereum Trust ETF. This move marks a pivotal step in Grayscale’s journey, as it transitions from a private entity to a publicly traded company.

However, users should be aware that the filing isn’t effective just yet. Historical patterns highlight that it could take anywhere from weeks to months before the SEC officially approves the registration statement, leading to a public listing. Notably, this filing comes just as the SEC is expected to resume full operations following a 43-day government shutdown, which had limited the agency’s ability to process IPOs and other financial documents.

Before its public filing, Grayscale had made a confidential IPO filing roughly four months prior. According to data released in the registration statement, the asset manager reported a decrease in net income year-over-year, falling to $203.3 million in September 2025 from $223.7 million in September 2024.

Singapore Takes a Stance on Stablecoins

Elsewhere, Singapore is preparing to implement stringent regulations around stablecoins as part of its effort to bolster financial integrity within its ecosystem. In a keynote address at the Singapore FinTech Festival, Chia Der Jiun, the Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), voiced concerns regarding unregulated stablecoins, stating that they pose a systemic risk due to their inadequate ability to maintain their pegs.

Chia emphasized that while stablecoins are often promoted as flexible, open platforms, their instability can lead to serious repercussions—akin to the runs seen in money market funds back in 2008. He articulated a clear distinction between regulated stablecoins, which will be recognized as safe for large-scale transactions, and their unregulated counterparts, which lack the necessary safeguards.

He noted that the next generation of digital money requires not just speed and programmability, but crucially, stability. The MAS’s upcoming regulations aim to ensure that stablecoins come with credible backing and clear redemption rights, thereby reinforcing their suitability for institutional and large wholesale transactions.

Trump Signs Bill to End Government Shutdown

In political news, President Donald Trump has signed a funding bill that officially brought an end to the U.S. government’s longest shutdown on record, lasting 43 days. The bill passed through the House of Representatives and the Senate and was signed into law by the President shortly after its passage.

This legislation not only reopens the government but also ensures funding for government operations until January 30, 2026. It allows additional time for bipartisan negotiations between Democrats and Republicans over broader funding plans for the remainder of the fiscal year.

The recent shutdown has become an almost habitual occurrence in U.S. politics, underscoring the contentious atmosphere around budgetary allocations. By signing this bill, Trump has managed to restore basic government functions while extending the timeline for legislative discussions concerning future funding, a battle that has proven difficult in previous years.
