Nexo’s Groundbreaking Zero-Interest Crypto Lending Product

In a move poised to reshape the landscape of digital finance, Nexo has recently unveiled a zero-interest crypto lending product, aptly named Zero-interest Credit. This innovative offering is designed for holders of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), allowing them to leverage their assets through fixed-term loans.

How Does Zero-interest Credit Work?

According to Nexo’s announcement, Zero-interest Credit enables users to borrow against their cryptocurrency holdings with clearly outlined repayment conditions set in advance. This means borrowers can select their loan size and duration upfront, ensuring they are fully aware of the terms before committing to the loan. Importantly, the structure is designed to prevent liquidation before the loan matures.

At maturity, recipients have the flexibility to settle their loans using stablecoins or through the collateral they provided, depending on prevailing market conditions. Moreover, Nexo offers borrowers the option to renew their loans under new terms, adding an extra layer of convenience.

Expanding Borrowing Capabilities

Prior to this launch, Nexo facilitated more than $140 million in borrowing through private and over-the-counter channels in 2025 alone. This expansion into a public offering signifies a strategic enhancement of its structured lending model, making it accessible to a more extensive user base.

Nexo, founded in 2018, has built a strong reputation offering crypto-backed loans, trading, and savings services to users in 150 jurisdictions worldwide. The Zero-interest Credit product not only diversifies their offerings but also aligns with current market demands.

Nexo’s Return to the U.S. Market

In April 2025, Nexo announced that it would reenter the U.S. market, which it had exited in late 2022 following regulatory challenges, including settling a $45 million case with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in early 2023. This decision reflects Nexo’s commitment to navigating regulatory frameworks while expanding its product offerings.

The Growing Trend of DeFi Lending

The broader landscape of crypto lending has experienced significant evolution since the tumultuous events of 2022 when companies like Celsius and BlockFi faced major difficulties, exacerbating market contagion from the FTX collapse. In 2025, centralized lenders, including Nexo, Ledn, Xapo Bank, and Coinbase, have been cautious, expanding their crypto lending offerings within fully collateralized structures.

This careful approach has coincided with a resurgence in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, which have recorded robust growth. According to DefiLlama data, the total value locked (TVL) in DeFi lending products surged from approximately $48.15 billion at the beginning of 2025 to an impressive peak of $91.98 billion by October 7, 2025.

Despite a downturn following a significant liquidation event on October 10, 2025, activity in the DeFi sector stabilized during November, with the current TVL hovering around $66 billion.

Key Players in DeFi Lending

The DeFi lending market is primarily led by Aave, boasting over $22 billion in outstanding loans and backed by more than $55 billion in deposited assets, according to DefiLlama. Morpho follows closely, supporting roughly $3.6 billion in outstanding loans with around $10 billion in available liquidity.

This growing landscape reflects an increasing interest in both centralized and decentralized lending solutions, as users seek safer, more flexible options to manage their cryptocurrency assets in a rapidly changing financial environment.

Looking Ahead

As Nexo and other lending platforms adapt to a shifting regulatory landscape and evolving user expectations, products like Zero-interest Credit may become essential tools for investors looking to make the most of their digital assets without risking their holdings in volatile markets. This transition highlights an exciting era for both centralized and decentralized finance, promising new opportunities for crypto enthusiasts and traditional investors alike.
