Hustle and Growth: A College Journey into Entrepreneurship

Early Days of Entrepreneurship

It all began in college—a blend of excitement and nervousness mixed with a desire to carve my own path. At first, it was about finding my lane, riding the wave of trends, particularly that of dropshipping, which was peaking at the time. I dabbled in various products—selling books here, Christmas toys there—expanding quickly as I secured multiple kiosks across malls in the Metro Atlanta area. The thrill of the holiday rush was palpable; it was a numbers game where I thrived. By the fall of my sophomore year, I was grossing $80,000 a month. Naturally, this significant financial success made me reconsider my college plans.

Navigating Parental Expectations

With great earnings came a crucial decision to relay my newfound success to my parents. However, their doubts cast a shadow over my visions. “No way, that’s not happening,” they said when I proposed stepping away from college to focus on my business. But I had tangible results. Eventually, I approached the daunting task of handling my taxes, leading to a wake-up call and discussions about the realities of my earnings.

A Year Off for Growth

This prompted me to take a year off from school, a pivotal moment where I could zero in on my business ambitions. I ventured into healthcare, specifically the medical device sector, dealing with local hospitals and nursing homes. Yet, the landscape was tough. The Medicare supplier rates were grim, but I pressed on, emboldened by mentorship and newfound knowledge.

Targeting Government Contracts

Inspired by videos on government contracting, I set my sights on a new goal: securing government contracts. The journey culminated in successfully supplying defibrillators to the Department of Defense. This achievement was monumental, not only financially but also because of the gravity of the client I was serving. It was humbling to see my company’s name featured on FBO, flourishing amidst illustrious counterparts.

Rapid Growth and Scaling

Within eight months, our revenue skyrocketed to over a million dollars, and to date, we’ve amassed over $155 million in gross revenue. With each win, my perception of success and potential morphed significantly. My focus broadened, leading me to explore real estate development in 2020 with a bold project: the construction of 250 single-family homes in Atlanta.

Stepping into New Ventures

Recently, my company entered a lucrative supply agreement in 2022 concentrating on drones and artificial intelligence within the aerospace and defense sectors. These ventures have been thrilling, and the opportunities continue to expand.

Mindset Shift: From Fear of Failure to Fear of Success

Reflecting on the journey, I recognize the stigma around government contracting. Many regard it as a maze riddled with difficulty and competition. Yet I believe that the challenge emphasizes the character and perseverance of individuals within this space. Wealth accumulation isn’t a smooth road, but neither is the struggle of being broke. The choice lies in embracing the challenge or succumbing to fear.

Generational Mindset Shifts

This transition often requires a generational shift—rethinking the cycles that confine us. Addressing ingrained limitations can feel like releasing someone from a metaphorical prison. The opportunity for drastic change exists; it demands readiness and resilience. I regularly remind individuals that there are countless avenues to success, and the only limits are often self-imposed.

Expanding Horizons

As I continue to share these ideas, it holds immense importance to me. Wealth is merely one aspect, but the quality of life, happiness, and fulfillment stand at the forefront. My interactions with my community push for a deeper understanding of our collective potential. Living authentically and expressing our dreams are vital for growth.

Balance and Wellness

Alongside the hustle, I prioritize self-care. Walking five miles daily fosters mental clarity; it allows me to breathe fresh air, soak in nature, and encourage mindfulness. Encountering simple joys, like the sound of the ocean or birds chirping, breaks the monotony of everyday life, reminding us all of life’s beauty.

The Importance of Connection and Community

In ongoing discussions about relationships, I see how cultural perspectives shape perceptions of success and connection. In many parts of the world, individuals prioritize personal connections over societal roles—something we, in the U.S., often overlook. Understanding this lifelong journey of connection fosters richer interactions.

The Journey Continues

My most recent adventure? I just got married—a thrilling new chapter in my life. This journey, while daunting, is enlightening, reminding me that adaptability is integral. Learning to weave patience and understanding into this partnership continually enriches my perspective on success.

As I reflect on the path of entrepreneurship, I acknowledge the myriad stories and experiences built along the way. Each encounter, every challenge, and all the triumphs contribute to a compelling narrative of growth and evolution. We have the power to redefine our paths and explore the vast potential that lies ahead.
