Jorge Cardenas: The Visionary Behind Brownsville’s IT Revolution
Jorge Cardenas, who has distinguished himself as the chief information officer (CIO) for Brownsville, Texas, was awarded the 2025 NASCIO Technology Champion Award. This accolade recognizes his exceptional contributions to public-sector IT—a testament to his innovative approach to technology in government.
Since stepping into the role of acting CIO in August 2022, Cardenas has been a pivotal figure in establishing Brownsville’s inaugural IT department. One of Goulet’s significant achievements has been the development of the state’s first IT strategic plan in over a decade, laying the groundwork for a robust technology framework across New Hampshire.
